Annual regional contest Teacher of LSF started in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. For more than 10 years the list of its sponsors includes Sakhalin Emercom, regional Ministry of Education and Agency for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Fire Safety. The competition is held with support of Sakhalin Energy as part of Safety Is Important! partnership programme.
This year 16 contestants take part in the contest: senior students preparing to be LSF teachers, young teachers of this discipline with less than 5 years of service as well as experienced teachers with a long service record. The geographical scope of participants includes Poronaisk, Kholmsk, Nevelsk, Korsakov, Yuzhno- Sakhalinsk, Dolinsk and Tomari districts. During three days of the contest they will have to approve themselves in various assignments: self-presentation, LSF testing, open lesson, Q/A session as well as demonstrate skills in First Aid section of the contest.
Tatyana Derivedmid, Head of Social Performance of Sakhalin Energy, said that this year two nominations were introduced to the contest: Future LSF Teacher for senior students and First Start for young teachers, that would provide growth and self-realisation opportunities for the future professionals. “Practical knowledge is of importance in LSF: how to behave in an emergency situation, how to render first aid, how to prevent hazardous situations - they teach all these as part of this discipline, therefore, contribution of the contest in strengthening the LSF teaching cannot be overstated”, added Tatiana.
“Today it’s hard to imagine any sphere of human activity that is not covered by HSE system, foundation of which is laid in the kindergarten and school. We want safety training to be carried out not only by the book, but in view of the experience gained by teachers during such events”, said Andrey Andreev, Head of Sakhalin Emercom, in his welcoming address.
At the opening ceremony, Natalia Murashova, Minister of Education of the Sakhalin Oblast mentioned that originally the contest took place within the framework of regional contest The Teacher of the Year. Later it was decided to make this event independent, so this is the fifth year when the LSF teachers contest has been arranged. “It demonstrates the importance of our efforts”, concluded the minister.
According to the specialists, basics of health and safety can be handy at any time, not only in the event of natural disasters, but at home, in everyday life, on the way to school. It’s essential to prepare children, so they could use the knowledge in difficult situations. Anna Mikheeva, Head of Agency for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Fire Safety, emphasized that such events are of particular relevance for the Sakhalin Oblast. “The most important result is children’s experience, so the knowledge would transfer to safe behaviour “, added Anna and thanked all participants for practical skills imparted to their students.
The jury, in addition to organizers, comprised representatives of Health and Safety Department of Sakhalin State University, Institute for Educational Development, Polyakov Search and Rescue Team as well as Rossoyuzspas public organisation.
