Sakhalin Energy Has Published the Sustainable Development Report for 2018

The 2018 Report is the tenth sustainable development report prepared by Sakhalin Energy. It reflects the innovative approaches and practices of the company in various fields of activity.

The topic of innovation was specially chosen for the 2018 Report, since it was to be published in the year when the company celebrates its 25th anniversary. Over the years, Sakhalin Energy has developed and applied a range of innovations and unique technologies unparalleled anywhere in the world.

The 2018 Report discloses information about the company’s activities under the Sakhalin-2 project, including personnel management and development, production organisation, environmental and industrial safety assurance, biodiversity preservation, stakeholder engagement, social investment, and so on. For the third year in a row, special attention was paid to the company’s work towards achieving the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. The document was prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative.

The mechanism for preparing sustainable development reports provides for holding biannual open dialogue meetings with stakeholders. The 2018 Report contains information about the results of such meetings and the on-line survey conducted. 

The Report has successfully passed the public endorsement procedure at the highest professional level in the Russian Federation—the independent expert review by the Council for Non-Financial Reporting of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSSP). The conclusion states: “The 2018 Sustainable Development Report of Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. contains material information and covers key areas of responsible business practices in accordance with the Social Charter of Russian Business. It provides sufficiently detailed information on the company’s activities in these areas.”

The purpose of public endorsement is to get external confirmation that the disclosed information on the implementation of the principles of responsible business is significant and complete. 

The Report is addressed to shareholders, customers, employees, business partners of the company, state bodies, public organisations, residents of the region, and other stakeholders. It gives the reader an opportunity to gain a deeper insight into the activities of Sakhalin Energy and its contribution to the development of the host region and society.
