The conference brought together the most famous volunteers of Russia including Oksana Oracheva (Potanin Foundation), Darya Miloslavskaya (Lawyers for Civil Society), Oleg Dyachenko (Mosvolonter), Anna Chesanova (Gazpromneft), Anna Lygina (Sakhalin Energy), Andrey Zhiltsov (Nizhny Novgorod Volunteering Service), Mikhail Kozhukhovsky (State Hermitage Museum) etc.
For two days, over 150 participants of the conference were discussing technologies and promotion of volunteering, its legal and financial aspects. A separate session was held on corporate volunteering. The representatives of the National Council for Corporate Volunteering shared their best practices.
On the second day of the volunteering forum two sessions were held in parallel on Culture and Sport Volunteering. The participants of the conference from Sakhalin say it was difficult to choose among so many aspects – they wanted to be in two places at the same time. This is not surprising since culture, sport and economy are the three conditions necessary for attracting tourists to the region that is currently experiencing a rapid development of tourism cluster.
Experts of the Culture Volunteering session made presentations about their most interesting projects. Marina Galich told about the development of so-called silver volunteering in the State Darwin Museum, Irina Kelner shared the secrets lying behind the organisation of the Children’s Day in Saint-Petersburg festival. Participants from Sakhalin were curious to learn about the experience of the State Hermitage Museum in working with volunteers told by Mikhail Kozhukhovsky, and to hear the presentation of Aleksander Yuminov, the Director of non-profit creative association Ryba-Morze – KAMA Records that is implementing a project on the establishment of the museum of Udmurt Vanished Villages.
Sakhalin experts also had something to share – the main librarian of the Sakhalin Region Library Lyudmila Alekseeva presented the project National Sakhalin Guide.
Another important discussion was held during the Sport Volunteering session. Oleg Dyachenko (Mosvolonter) told about the methods of attracting volunteers for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, and Anna Shilova spoke about the work of volunteers under the Ski of Dream sports therapy programme for children with disabilities. A great deal of interest was generated by the School of Street Sports project presented by its initiator Ivan Butakov. Practices used in sport volunteering have become more relevant in anticipation of the Children of Asia Games, which are to be held for the first time on Sakhalin in February.
